South Africa vs Pakistan ODI series is turning out to be a memorable one. The five-match series is tied at 2-2 as both teams head to Newlands, Cape Town for the fifth ODI on Wednesday, January 30. The momentum is with the visitors who outplayed the hosts in the last ODI on Sunday. Bowling first, Pakistan packed the Proteas for just 164. They were hardly bothered in the run-chase as Pakistan crossed the finish line with eight wickets to spare. Both teams will need their star players to really stand out on Wednesday. We could be in for what will be a really entertaining match at the Newlands.

Best economical pick – The young Pakistan pacer Usman Khan really rose up to the occasion on Wednesday. He was lethal in the fourth ODI as he dismantled the South African batting attack with four wickets in the middle overs. Usman Khan’s second spell certainly did most of the damage with the hosts sitting precariously at 156/5 in the 35th over.

Top captains & vice captains – South Africa really struggled in the last ODI and it was Faf du Plessis who created some kind of resistance to the otherwise ruthless performance by Pakistan. His half-century was the only thing that took South Africa to the total and the batsman looked in good touch. The skipper will be desperate to win the home series against Pakistan, which will be added motivation for him to play well. Another player who has really shown up for Pakistan is the southpaw opener, Imam Ul-Haq. Imam had been a little disappointing, especially in the later parts of last year and was in desperate need of some confidence. However, the ODI series against South Africa showed what he brought to the team as he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Smart pick – South Africa will be very proud of the efforts from this young lad. Andile Phehlukwayo has been really efficient for the home team with the ball and occasionally with the bat. While he picks up wickets quite frequently, his spells have always been lethal, applying brakes to the innings and helping South Africa stay alive in the series.

Cautions Pick – The Pakistani opener Fakhar Zaman will be under the radar. In the four ODIs that he played this year, Fakhar only managed to score 97 runs at an average of 26 and strike rate of 69. The left-hander needs to start delivering from now on, otherwise, he’ll end up putting added pressure on his teammates and the management.

My XI – Faf du Plessis (Captain), Imam ul Haq (Vice-Captain), Usman Khan, Andile Phehlukwayo, Rassie Van Der Dussen,Reeza Hendricks, Shaheen Afridi, Kagiso Rabada, Quinton de Kock, David Miller, Babar Azam
