SA v PAK 2018-19: Mohammad Amir returns to ODI squad for South Africa series

Pakistan Cricket Team has named a 16-man squad on Wednesday (January 9) for the five-match One Day International series against South Africa, starting with the first match on January 19 at St George's Park Cricket Ground in Port Elizabeth.

While fast bowler Mohammad Amir managed to earn a recall to the ODI squad for the upcoming series on the back of his Test show against the Proteas side, as he was out of the team since Asia Cup 2018; Shan Masood and Hussain Talat also earned maiden call-ups for the white-ball series here.

The 26-year-old pacer didn’t get a wicket in his last five ODIs, resulting he was left out for the New Zealand series, but his brilliant form with the ball in the ongoing three-match Test series against South Africa picked up 8 wickets in two matches, earned an ODI recall for him on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed that they have made five changes in their squad for the third and final Test against South Africa, starting from Friday (January 11) in Johannesburg.

The PCB said in a statement, “Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Abbas and Yasir Shah have been replaced by Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Hussain Talat, Usman Shinwari and Imad Wasim, respectively.”

While Pakistan Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq said that the board picked the ODI squad for the Proteas series keeping in mind the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup to be held in England from May 30-July 14.

Inzamam signed off by saying, “While selecting the squad, we have tried to maintain consistency, taking into consideration player performances in white-ball cricket as well as looking ahead to the upcoming ODI challenges, including the World Cup.”
