Dale Steyn has now become the most prolific Test bowler for South Africa with 422 scalps, overtaking Shaun Pollock’s tally of 421 wickets. Steyn achieved the feat during the first Test against Pakistan in Centurion on Wednesday (December 26).

Steyn got rid of opener Fakhar Zaman out, caught in the slips for 12 by Dean Elgar, to own the record. In July against Sri Lanka, the 35-year-old pacer had made a comeback after recovering from a heel injury he sustained in January and equalled Pollock's record in that series.

Widely deemed as one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time, Steyn debuted for South Africa way back in 2004. He has represented the country in 89 Tests and his bowling strike-rate of 42 is the best among fast bowlers with 200 Test wickets. As soon as Steyn surpassed Pollock, youngster Kagiso Rabada lifted him on the shoulder to acknowledge his immense contribution for South African cricket.

Dale Steyn’s achievement also took the social media by storm. Twitter was filled with congratulatory messages for the legendary Proteas pacer.
