PAK v NZ 2018: Babar Azam breaks Virat Kohli's record to set a new T20I landmark

Pakistan batting sensation Babar Azam overtook Indian skipper Virat Kohli and became the fastest player to reach 1,000 runs in T20 International cricket on Sunday (November 4).

The 24-year-old right-hander achieved the feat during the third and final match of the T20I series against New Zealand when he smacked brilliant 79 off 58 deliveries to help Pakistan to thrash the touring side by 47-rusn to complete a washout 3-0 here in Dubai.

The stylish opener reached the 1000-run mark in T20Is when he reached 48, while completed the incredible landmark in just 26 innings, beating the previous record held by Kohli in 27 T20I innings.

Meanwhile, Azam boosted with his sizzling show in the T20I before heading into the three-match One Day Internationals against the Black Caps, starting from Wednesday (November 7) which are the part of the preparation for the next ICC Cricket World Cup in England.

Besides Azam, Mohammad Hafeez has also been in brilliant form with the bat in the home series and there are high chances of hosts to make the most of the gained momentum from T20Is in the ODIs against the Kiwis, who returned to the international arena after the gap of the seventh months with the UAE tour.

On the other hand, Kohli is currently rested for the ongoing T20I series against the West Indies after he led India to a 3-1 win in the ODI series, where he scored three back-to-back hundreds at home.
