Glenn Maxwell played a swashbuckling knock of 98 from 82 deliveries (9 fours and 3 sixes) to help Australia register a six-run win over Pakistan in the fourth ODI at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday (March 29).

After being put into bat, Australia were struggling at 140/5 before the duo of Maxwell and Alex Carey (55 off 67 balls) put on 134 runs for the sixth wicket to help the visitors post 277/7 in 50 overs. In the final over of Australian innings, Maxwell went for a risky second run but was caught short of his ground. Thus, he missed out on what could have been his second ODI century.

Maxwell might have missed his ton but he would be mighty pleased with the fact that his selfless knock resulted in a victory for Australia. Moreover, Maxi would love to know that he has an avid fan, cheering his every run with utmost passion.

During the Australian innings, cameras captured a little fan rooting for Maxwell’s dazzling strokeplay. He was also seen celebrating when Maxwell got a reprieve despite being bowled as Pakistan pacer Usman Shinwari overstepped.

When Glenn Maxwell eventually got run-out in the second delivery of 50th over, the little fan couldn’t hide his disappointment. He tried to put his cap on the face while the commentator said, “Maxwell was short of the crease and it broke a young heart”.
