Having been prolific across all formats in the Australian domestic scene, left-hand batsman D'Arcy Short has said that he is extremely determined to perform every time he steps on the field and wants to just focus on the present without worrying too much about the future.

Short, who scored 68* to lead Australia to a seven-wicket win over UAE in Abu Dhabi on Monday, October 22, expressed excitement that there are enough places open for selection at the highest level, currently and said, "There definitely is a lot of spots open I guess, All I can do is score runs in white-ball cricket and whatever comes from that, I'll be happy to take it."

"I just try to back myself and don't really think about what I'm averaging. It's all about being consistent for me and if I'm consistent with what I'm bringing, hopefully, I'm scoring runs," he added.

Short, who has played 3 ODIs and 11 T20Is for Australia, also talked about the time spent with head coach Justin Langer at West Australia, which, he says, helped in gaining confidence, before a recent list A double-hundred further boosted it ahead of the three T20I series against Pakistan.

"It definitely does. But I guess international level is obviously a bit higher," he said, "While it was good to score those runs, you've still got to do try and do it at this level as well," and signed off.

The first T20 International takes place on Wednesday, October 24.
