Having twisting his left knee during fielding drills before the start of play on Day 3 of the ongoing Test against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi, Usman Khawaja might undergo a surgery as he suffered a meniscal tear and is highly likely to be a doubtful starter for the upcoming home summer.

Khawaja, who scored an outstanding hundred in the first Test at Dubai, couldn't manage to come out at his usual opening slot due to the injury, which has now been revealed after scans on Thursday, October 17 to have seriously aggravated.

Chasing the impregnable 538 runs to win, the visitors find themselves 47/1 before the start of Day 4 and while initial reports suggested that Khawaja might come out to bat if needed, skipper Tim Paine confirmed that it is very unlikely that the left-hander would take any further part in the Test and the series.

Khawaja was seen hobbling his way off the field before play on Day 3 and while it didn't look like as too serious an issue at the time, the 31-year-old couldn't take the field for the entire duration.

In the absence of Steve Smith and David Warner, an inform Khawaja is very very important for Australia for the all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.

Khawaja will now fly back home before considering subsequent medical options.
