Not many will know that Dinesh Karthik made his international debut a few months before MS Dhoni, yet while MS Dhoni went onto have a glorious career, Karthik was relegated to being the spare wicketkeeper ever since.

Getting chances when Dhoni was injured or rested, Karthik saw many other keepers getting chances before him. But Karthik didn’t give up hope and worked on becoming a better batsman and the best glovesman there could be in the country.

His hard work paid off in the past year, as he was recalled into the Champions Trophy 2017 team and has been with the team ever since, playing as a specialist batsman. He was even recalled into the Test team after a period of 8 years.

He was waiting for his one glorious moment, which came in the final of Nidahas Trophy 2017. Playing the role that usually MS Dhoni plays, that of the finisher; he came in when India needed 34 runs off 12 balls to win.

Karthik smoked Rubel Hossain for two sixes and two fours in the 19th over and got a total of 22 runs in the over. When the whole thing came down to 5 runs off the last ball, everyone was thinking of a super over, but Karthik got the ball in his zone and it went sailing over the cover boundary for a six.

He won the Man of the final and finally got his moment in international cricket, for which he will be remembered forever in annals of Indian cricket.

BCCI.tv caught up with Dinesh Karthik and he relived his night of glory.
