Indian Cricket Team led by Rohit Sharma won the 2018 Nidahas Trophy after beating Bangladesh by four wickets in a thrilling last over at R. Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo on Sunday.

However, Bangladesh lost the final encounter of the T20 International Tri-series to the Men in Blues, but the Tigers showed some great character throughout the series keeping aside their controversies.

On Sunday (18 March), Bangladesh was an inch closer to the Nidahas title, as their batsman did a fantastic job, posting 166. While defending the total, their bowlers were also going in the right direction, dismissing Shikhar Dhawan at 10 and Suresh Raina at 0 off three balls.

However, stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma batted well to bring the game in the balance hitting 56 off 42. Manish Pandey, KL Rahul, and Vijay Shankar made handy contributions to bring India closer to a win. Pandey and Rahul were dismissed by the 18 over while Shankar was dismissed off the penultimate ball of the game.

Later, Dinesh Karthik came to bat at No.7, rescued the team by playing match-winning innings of 29 runs off 8 balls, hitting 2 sixes and 2 fours to help India to clinch the Nidahas Trophy.

The Indian skipper lauded Bangladesh’s efforts in the final, saying the Tigers have played fearless cricket. He also said that they have been growing up in the last three years, and certainly a very good team.

As per AFP, Rohit told reporters at the post-match press conference, “(Bangladesh) play fearless cricket, it's always good. Sometimes, it can bite you when things don't go your way but that is the style of cricket they want to play. They are certainly a very good team... in the last three years, we've seen how they've changed their style of cricket. A few of the guys who are experienced are nurturing the younger guys.”

Meanwhile, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has shown regret for not winning the final but lauded his team for showing good character in the Tri-series as well as in the final against India.

He signed off by saying, “We were very close but in the end, India was on the winning side. Credit goes to them but we cannot take anything away from us for the way we played throughout this tournament. We have shown some good character and played the game in the right spirit and I cannot ask more than that from my team.”
