Nidahas Tri-series 2018: Bangladesh spin coach Sunil Joshi terms aggression the key for victory in the finals

Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka in final league match to qualify for the finals on Sunday.

Sunil Joshi said that aggression will be the key in finals for Bangladesh

Former India spinner Sunil Joshi, who now works as spin consultant for the Bangladeshi team, has said that the return of Shakib-Al-Hasan has definitely increased their chances of winning the ongoing Nidahas Tri-series 2018.

Bangladesh will be facing a rampaging Indian team, who has decimated their opponents, including Bangladesh in league stages, after losing their first match.

Shakib’s presence in the dressing room really lifts the whole team up. And he is ‘the’ player in this format of the game, He is the No. 1 allrounder in the world and he has shown why he is there on top. His experience came good for us in the middle in yesterday’s game,” Joshi told Wisden India on Saturday (March 17).

The former India left-arm spinner remarked, “I think it’s very important for the captain to have the players under his control. At some point, in the heat of the moment, things can happen, it is a part of the game, but we need to hold on to our aggression and show it at the right time.”

Luckily, we have got the momentum with us,” said Joshi. “We chased 214 the other day and followed it up with a good game against India. I am confident that our guys will do well against India.

We competed really well with the Indian team. You have to give credit to our top order batsmen – Tamim (Iqbal), Mushfiqur (Rahim) and Mahmudullah for having led the team from the front. Having Shakib’s presence shows why we are stronger in this format of the game,” he continued.

Joshi, who took over the spin consultant’s role in August last year, however, chose to look at the positive side. “It’s been a great journey for me so far,” he said. “To give more clarity on that, in the first series against Australia, we had great results. So far it has been a wonderful journey for me.

We have begun 2018 well and this is the stage for us to really express ourselves. And what we have shown, the new brand of T20 cricket, we need to continue playing aggressively and fearlessly. That is our code word. It doesn’t matter how you finish, but you have to play aggressively and fearlessly,” concluded Joshi.
