Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan along with his teammate Nurul Hasan has been fined 25 percent of their match fees and being handed one demerit point each for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct in the incident which took place in the final over of the match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
"Shakib was found to have breached Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game", while Nurul was found guilty of violating Article 2.1.2, which deals with "conduct that brings the game into disrepute", the ICC said in a media release.
"The incident involving Shakib happened in 19.2 over of the Bangladesh innings when he came to the edge of the boundary and gestured at his batsmen to come off the field while remonstrating against an umpiring decision. As regards Nurul, the reserve player argued and pointed finger at Sri Lanka captain Thisara Perera which led to unruly public behaviour after he was sent by the team on to the field of play to pass on a message to the two batsmen," the release further stated.
Bangladesh won the match with a ball to spare but not before it saw a lot of hue and cry in the final over from Isuru Udana. Bangladesh was livid with the fact that the umpires ignored two back to back no-balls bowled by the bowler. This instigated the Shakib led team to vent their anger on the issue.
Both teams went hammer and tongs at each other in the process, however, the on-field umpires handled the situation. The match continued and Bangladesh clinched victory in a last over thriller.
Meanwhile, after the match, a window of the Bangladesh dressing room was found damaged. The ground staff at the Premadasa Stadium has been requested to study the CCTV footage to find out who caused the damage in the Bangladesh dressing room during the final group game of the Nidahas Trophy tournament on Friday. Match referee Chris Broad has asked the local officials to go through the CCTV footage to find out who had caused the damage.
India and Bangladesh will play the final of the Nidahas Tri-series on Sunday (March 18).
