After Sri Lanka started their Nidahas Tri series campaign in an emphatic manner with a win against India in the Nidahas Tri series opener, a loss against Bangladesh in a high scoring encounter came back to hurt them badly as it saw their regular skipper being handed a two-match ban due to their slow over rate in the second game. 

Each team has won one match each and lost one each out of the three matches played in total. Today, in the fourth match of the series, Sri Lanka play India in a crucial encounter without Chandimal. Premier SL all-rounder, Thisara Perera will shoulder the responsibilities of captaincy after helping Sri Lanka win against India in the first ODI. 

Meanwhile, before the tournament began, former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene his as the favorites to win the tournament. 

In a column which he wrote for Times of India, Jayawardene reflected on the chances of Sri Lanka's win. 

“Given home advantage, growing confidence under coach Chandika Hathuruasingha, and the fact that India are not at full-strength, I think Sri Lanka can be fairly labelled as the favourites. But I would definitely not write off India who are blessed with strength in depth these days,” wrote Jayawardene.
