Bangladesh received a huge blow ahead of the Nidahas Trophy 2018 in Sri Lanka, as their ace all-rounder and Captain –Shakib-Al-Hasan has been ruled out of the tour with the finger injury.

On Saturday (March 3), Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that Shakib will not lead The Tigers in the Tri-nation T20I series, involving Sri Lanka and India, as he continues his recovery from the finger injury that he sustained in January 2018.

Initially, BCB has named Sakib in their 16-man squad for the Nidahas Trophy with the hope the all-rounder will be available at some point during the T20 series, but eventually decided to rest him to give him sufficient time to recover from the injury.

Meanwhile, Mahmudullah will continue to lead Bangladesh in the T20I tri-series, while Litton Das has been named as the replacement for Shakib in the squad.

The 30-year-old recently visited Bangkok to consult an orthopedic who said he will need at least two weeks of therapy to complete his rehabilitation. It is also learned that Shakib needs some more time after therapy to get back to match fitness as well.

Shakib injured the finger on his left hand during the ODI tri-series final on January 27 at home and due to which he had to miss the Test and T20 series against Sri Lanka last month. With the finger injury, the all-rounder also didn't play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018.
