New Zealand beat India by 10 wickets in the first Test match at Basin Reserve in Wellington and took a 1-0 lead in the series with one match to go.

On the first day, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first. Indian batsmen had no clue against New Zealand pacers' moving balls and the entire team bowled out for just 165 runs. In reply, New Zealand scored 348 runs with the help of Kane Williamson's 89 and useful knocks from de Grandhomme, Jamieson and Boult and took a good lead of 183 runs.

In the second innings also Indian batsmen struggled and were clueless against the duo of Trent Boult and Tim Southee and whole team bowled out for just 191 runs. New Zealand was set a target of mere 10 runs which they achieved without losing any wicket. Tim Southee was named Man of the Match for his 9 wickets haul.
