Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw are two top contenders for the opening spot after Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the Test series against New Zealand. Gill, who came as a replacement of Rohit, may clash with Shaw for the slot. But the youngster has snubbed any possibility of dispute between them.

"Both of us have performed well in the opportunities that we have got. It depends on the team management who they will pick. So it's not like there is a fight between us," Gill told reporters on Thursday.

India A batting star, Gill made headlines with his outstanding batting performance against New Zealand A. He scored 527 runs including 204* in the 5 games he played on New Zealand tour.

"I am ready for the series as I have enough match practice and I have played here before in India A tour. I think the wind factor is very important here. The bowlers plan their bowling, fielding according to the wind. In England, ball swings more and off the wicket there is much movement as compared to New Zealand. England is much challenging for batsmen while facing seamers," he said.

"I think the wickets here are really good to bat on especially when we played day-games in Christchurch. The only challenge that we were facing was the bounce. The bounce was really good and it was really consistent. Keeping the wind factor in mind, it was not easy to consistently pull and hook the ball," he added.

Talking about his growth in the last couple of years, the 20-year-old said, "I think I have grown as a player and I have grown in confidence and in other aspects of my game. I have learned a lot of things over the last few years."
