NZ v IND 2020: "Outstanding performance", Williamson relishes 3-0 ODI whitewash over India

Black Caps finished the ODI series with a clean slate after a five-wicket victory at Bay Oval.

New Zealand continued its dominant run in ODIs against India | GettyNew Zealand skipper Kane Williamson lauded his team's "outstanding performance" as it went on to clinch victory in the third and final ODI at Bay Oval this Tuesday (February 11) by five wickets to complete a 3-0 series whitewash over India.

The Black Caps continued their dominance over the Men in Blue in the 50-over version with wins in Hamilton, Auckland and Mount Maunganui, having won the World Cup semi-final in Manchester last year.

Pacer Hamish Bennett (4/64) delivered a stand-out spell for the hosts as they restricted the Indians to 296/7, a less than ideal total on a flat wicket, before successfully chasing it down on the back of solid half-centuries from openers Martin Guptill (66), Henry Nicholls (80), and Colin de Grandhomme (58*).

"Outstanding performance," Williamson said at the post-match presentation ceremony. "India put us under pressure every game of this seriesand today, the first half the way boys fought with the ball was brilliant. The cricket smarts was outstanding to see and it's something that the boys did that well throughout the series.

"There are always things to learn from sides like India and it's a great start and we are just building on these performances and looking forward to ODIs with Australia later on. Like I said, an outstanding effort against a brilliant side like India," the captain added.

For India, while Shreyas Iyer (62) scored yet another half-century and KL Rahul (112) made a classy ton, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (3/47) delivered a fine spell. But even their performances weren't enough for the team's consolation victory.

Williamson, who couldn't take part in the first two ODIs because of a shoulder injury, thankfully recovered in time for the last game of the series.

"Its recovering (the shoulder) well which is a good thing and I just want to make a special mention to Hindo, obviously, a fan and friend of the team and member of the Sky cricket team and just want him to know that all (the team) are thinking about him," he said.
