Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli’s continued failure with the bat on Tuesday (February 11) could see India getting whitewashed in the ongoing three-match One Day International (ODI) series – for the first time since 1989 against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui.

The stylish right-hander has been struggling to fire in the 50-over format since last August, as he couldn’t hit a ton in ODIs and even his current poor form with the willow in New Zealand led India to lose the series to the hosts 2-0 with the final ODI being played in Mount Maunganui.

Kohli has really a bad ODI series, amassing just 75 runs in three innings (51, 15, and 9) against the Black Caps – which is the lowest tally for him as captain and the average of 25 is also the lowest series average for him since the ODI series against Bangladesh in 2015 when he averaged 16.33.

Meanwhile, India’s chase master has now gone 9 innings without scoring a hundred for India in the ODI cricket with his last ODI hundred came way back in August 2019 against West Indies in Port of Spain, while his last 9 innings scores read –  4, 0, 85, 16, 78, 89, 51, 15 and 9.

India is set to face a whitewash in New Zealand ODIs for the first time since they suffered a 5-0 whitewash 31 years ago in the West Indies, as the Black Caps are on the verge to win the third and final ODI with needing 71 runs off 57 balls to win the ongoing game in Mount Maunganui.

Well, Kohli will now hope to score runs in the upcoming Test series in New Zealand, saying: “ODIs aren’t too relevant this year compared to Tests and T20s.”
