New Zealand beat India by 4 wickets in the first ODI match at Seddon Park in Hamilton and took 1-0 lead in the series.
Earlier New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first. Debutants Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal gave 50 runs start but both openers got out without converting their starts into big knocks. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer rebuilt the innings and their 102 runs partnership set the platform for a big score. Kohli got out for 51 runs and KL Rahul joined Iyer at the crease. Both batsmen changed their gears and Iyer brought up his maiden ODI hundred. KL Rahul's 88* off 64 balls and Kedar Jadhav's 26* runs cameo helped India to post a huge total of 347/4 on the board.
In reply, New Zealand also started well and Henry Nicholls and Martin Guptill gave 85 runs platform. Tom Blundell couldn't do and at 109/2 in 20 overs New Zealand was on backfoot. Nicholls brought up his fifty and kept his team in the match but he got run out on 78 and India were on top but Ross Taylor and Tom Latham's counter-attacking partnership of 138 runs off just 80 oddballs changed the game. In the end, New Zealand lost a few wickets but Ross Taylor's 109* runs to knock off 84 balls took his team home.
