India opener Rohit Sharma on Monday (February 3) got ruled out of the remaining New Zealand tour after sustaining a calf injury in the fifth and final T20I at Bay Oval.

Punjab batsman Shubman Gill, who received his maiden Test call-up during the South Africa home series last year, has been named by BCCI President Sourav Ganguly as Rohit’s replacement for the two-match Test series against Kiwis, slated to start from February 21.

The full squad is yet to be released by the BCCI.

Gill, 20, has been in fabulous form lately. He hit an unbeaten 204 for India ‘A’ in the first unofficial Test against New Zealand ‘A’ in Christchurch last week.
