One can expect the on-field umpires to make an error as they don't have the privilege of watching a reply before taking a decision. But what if a third umpire makes a mistake? We are sure no one expects them to make a mistake. But what happened during the second T20I against New Zealand shook everyone.
Kiwi batsman Daryl Mitchell was given out in a controversial judgment in Krunal Pandya's over. The 35-year-old was given LBW but he was confident he has nicked it. The replay also showed he has edged it. The hotspot showed an inside edge but the third umpire still announced the decision against him.
Krunal bowled a length delivery, which Daryl couldn't middle as it came back in sharply and hit him on his pads right in front of the wickets. But it had hit the bat first as replays showed.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, who was at the non-striker’s end, was left stunned by the decision. Even Indian cricketers were not sure what just happened.
Fans on social media, no matter which country they supported, came out and criticized the decision.
