Kane Williamson is hoping that New Zealand's 80-run win in the first T20I versus India sets up the tone for rest of this three-match series.

Blackcaps skipper was very happy with his team's overall effort on the night they handed India their biggest-ever defeat in terms of margin of runs in the shortest format.

"Fantastic performance all around," Williamson was quoted saying afterwards, "I think everybody in their roles did their jobs. One of the complete performances you search for. It's sort of finished now, we move on in a day's time and there's another game."

"There were some really good things in this game. The top order was outstanding. Seifert(Player-of-the-match" for his outstanding 43-ball 84) played a special knock. We were able to build partnerships."

Chasing a huge 220-run target, none of the Indian batsmen got going as the likes of Tim Southee (3/17), Lockie Ferguson (2/22) and Mitchell Santner (2/24) bowled magnificently well.

"The bowling performance was outstanding. We had run on the board but bowling and fielding were of a high standard. Complete performance. Doesn't happen always. It has set the tone for the rest of the series," he added.

Kiwi captain was quick to congratulate New Zealand women's cricket team, who were also able to clinch victory over the travelling Indian side at the same ground on Wednesday.

"It [the women's T20I] was a great game that ebbed and flowed a little bit. Throughout the series, we have copied them a bit... the two teams have followed a similar trend. Hopefully, they can do that in the next game and we can follow them as well," Williamson concluded.
