NZ v IND 2019: Trent Boult reflects on his devastating spell in Hamilton ODI

Left-arm pacer Trent Boult wreaked havoc to claim 5 wickets for 21 runs in his quota of 10 overs as New Zealand bundled out India for a paltry 92 in the fourth ODI at Seddon Park, Hamilton on Thursday (January 31).

Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to bowl first. Making the most of the swinging conditions, Boult ripped through the visitors’ top and lower middle-order to script an emphatic win for the Kiwis. Rohit Sharma (7) Shikhar Dhawan (13), debutant Shubman Gill (9), Kedar Jadhav (1), Hardik Pandya (16) were his victims in the match.

In reply, the hosts rode on Ross Taylor’s 37 not out and Henry Nicholls 30* to chase down the subpar target with eight wickets in hand and 212 balls to spare. For his stunning five-wicket haul, Boult was deservedly adjudged Man-of-the-Match.

"It was nice to see the ball move in the air like that. I feel I'm a different bowler when it swings. One of my home grounds domestically, I live about an hour away from here. I have a bit of experience here I suppose. It does swing around, bit humid here and it was nice to make the most of it today," Boult quoted after the match.

It was Trent Boult’s fifth five-wicket haul in the 50-over format and now the left-armer has equalled legendary all-rounder Richard Hadlee's tally of most fifers in ODI cricket by a Kiwi bowler. Interestingly, he bowled his quota of 10 overs on the trot in Hamilton.

"Just one of those things when you get a couple of wickets at the top... a pretty unique thing to bowl 10 overs on the bounce. But it's just one of things, when the rhythm's good and the ball is swinging late in the spell so I just wanted to make the most of it," Boult said.

With three stellar victories, India have already clinched the five-match ODI series. The two teams will now meet in the fifth and final ODI at Wellington on Sunday, February 3.
