India Women seal ODI series against NZ-W with 8-wicket win; Mandhana, Jhulan shine

Smriti Mandhana followed her century in 1st WODI with an unbeaten fifty.

Indian women's team registered a 8-wkt win in second ODI | Getty Indian women’s team matches up to their male counterparts and won the three-match ODI series by beating the New Zealand women by 8 wickets in the second match at Mount Maunganui on Tue, Jan 29.

Mithali Raj won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Indian bowlers proved their captain correct by removing the openers for single-digit scores, as Suzie Bates scored a duck and Sophie Devine made 7.

Skipper Amy Satterthwaite was the only notable scorer for the white ferns with 71 off 87 balls with 9 fours. Leigh Kasperek contributed with 21 and Lauren Down made 15. New Zealand was only able to put 161 on board, as they were all out in the 43rd over.

Jhulan Goswami proved her mastery with figures of 3/23. Ekta Bisht (2/15), Deepti Sharma (2/51) and Poonam Yadav (2/38) were the other wicket-takers for the Indian team.

In their chase, India lost Jemimah Rodrigues for a duck and Deepti Sharma for 8, but the in-form Smriti Mandhana hit an unbeaten fifty, a 90* in 83 balls with 13 fours and 1 six, which followed her brilliant century in the first match. She was well supported by captain Mithali Raj, who also made 63* in 111 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

The duo added an unbeaten 151 runs for the 3rd wicket and won the match by 8 wickets.
