NZ v IND 2019: Scott Styris' hilarious reply to Sunil Gavaskar's dig at Kiwi team's performance in series

Gavaskar had taken an indirect dig at New Zealand team's performance in the series.

Scott Styris always has an answer to anything thrown at him

The Indian cricket team ensured yet another ODI series win as they won the third ODI against New Zealand by seven wickets and took an unassailable lead in the five-match series.

The match was played at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui and saw New Zealand putting up 243 while batting first. Mohammad Shami picked three wickets for 41 runs and was named Player of the Match for his efforts.

Indian team replied by overhauling the score with 7 wickets in hand, thanks to fifties from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Dinesh Karthik and Ambati Rayudu added 77* runs to take Indian team to the victory. This was India’s first ODI series win in New Zealand after 2008-09.

After the match Sunil Gavaskar, Scott Styris was speaking with Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the broadcaster's post-match show.

During the interview, Gavaskar asked Bhuvneshwar whether its difficult to bowl to Indian batsmen in nets or bowling to Kiwi batsmen in the match. It was a dig at New Zealand’s Scott Styris, who was also present there.

"So tell me is it a greater challenge to bowl to Indian batsmen in the nets than to ball to the New Zealand batsmen in the match," Gavaskar asked Bhuvneshwar.

Depends," Bhuvneshwar answered.

"You and I Sunny, are falling out here," Styris interjected. "Just asking," Gavaskar clarified.

Scott Styris conceded defeat, but not without having a final word of his.

"Probably is. We are speculating in the New Zealand commentary box whether the Indian men's team should take on the Indian women's teams tomorrow instead. Might be much fairer contest," Styris said in response.

For clarification, the Mithali Raj-led Indian women’s team will take on the White Ferns in the second ODI on Jan 29 at Bay Oval. The Indian women’s team had won the first ODI of the three-match series by 9 wickets already.
