India added uncapped batsman Shubman Gill and all-rounder Vijay Shankar in the team as a replacement of KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya, the suspended cricketers for the tour to New Zealand.

Vijay Shankar made his ODI debut in the third ODI against Australia. Meanwhile, Gill has been picked only for the series against New Zealand that starts with the five-match ODI series from January 23.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a video of 19-year-old practicing hard in the nets before the first ODI against New Zealand. "Team India's latest recruit Shubman Gill was seen sweating out in the nets at his first training session with the Senior Men's team," the BCCI wrote.

Shubman made an impact with the bat in domestic format and that made him second player from the 2018 U-19 World Cup winning squad to play feature in the Indian squad after Prithvi Shaw.

“The call was unexpected but I understand the circumstances in which I have been picked. I have a pretty set target in mind. I have done well at all the levels I have played in so far and that has given me the belief that I can also excel in international cricket,” Gill had said after receiving a call in the Indian side.
