Shreyas Iyer feels that he has a sense of belonging while batting for India at the No.4 spot in ODIs. He consistently performed under pressure in India’s triumphant Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, scoring 243 runs in five matches, including a critical knock of 48 in the title clash against New Zealand.

This follows the Mumbai batter's sensational display in the 2023 ODI World Cup when he racked up 530 runs from 11 matches.

In an interaction with news agency PTI, Shreyas said that he will repeat the same performances to provide balance in the middle order for the Indian team.

"I feel I belong to the No.4 position. Whether it was in the 2023 World Cup or now in the Champions Trophy, I enjoyed the most coming as No.4. It gives me a sense of belonging and that's where I am able to flourish," Iyer stated.

"I will tirelessly repeat it to provide that balance in the middle order, whenever I represent India," he added.

Iyer's vulnerability to shorter deliveries has been secret to none and opposition attacks have openly exploited the weakness in the post. However, the Indian star was well-equipped to take on the challenge during the Champions Trophy.

Shreyas reckoned that a perception was created that he was weak against short balls. The Mumbai batter said that he always knew about his strengths and abilities and continued to back himself.

"Maybe, the perception was created or maybe I was typecast. But I always knew my strengths, my abilities and (there was also) the belief (that) I had in myself," he remarked.

While he has flourished in ODIs, Shreyas also boasts a decent record in Tests. However, the Punjab Kings captain remained coy on his ambition of making return to the Test team.

"I prefer not to over-think and complicate my current process. For now, I am living in the moment to fulfil my roles and responsibilities with Punjab Kings," he said.
