Following India's repeated failures in ICC events, the BCCI is all set to knock at the doors of MS Dhoni, who won all three ICC white-ball trophies as India's captain during his illustrious career.

According to the reports in The Telegraph, the BCCI is all set to send Dhoni an SOS for a bigger role with India's T20I team, as they are looking for a permanent role for the legendary captain with the Men in Blue.

The report also claimed that the BCCI feels that the workload of managing all three formats of the game is too much for the current head coach of Team India, Rahul Dravid, so they are considering splitting the coaching roles. Hence, BCCI wants to use Dhoni’s skills to raise the standard of the T20I team.

Amid the reports, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt hailed the BCCI’s idea and backed Dhoni for the role of head coach with the Indian team. He said Dhoni would be his first choice if the changes were on the cards following the T20 World Cup 2022 debacle.

Salman Butt said on his YouTube channel:Both VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag were fantastic players. But leadership and tactical prowess are very important because a coach also needs to be a mentor to the players. Looking at how successful MS Dhoni was in those aspects; he would be my first choice. Indian cricket will benefit significantly from MS Dhoni's involvement and presence.”

The veteran batter continued, “Because of the type of captain he has been, he would be a big asset when it comes to designing tactical plans for the team. He is a tactical expert with an excellent temperament. He is an asset to them, and they should indeed create a capacity for him to contribute. With his kind of a brain, players will be benefitted. Indian cricket will move ahead. You can't beat experience, you can't beat the person who has done things himself.”

Butt also feels the Indian team management should give more chances to youngsters.

He signed off by saying, “Greater things don't happen unless you take risks. This is not a risk. It is more about testing the players. It won't be the case that everyone will succeed, but you need to at least give people opportunities. By giving them more chances, you will be able to identify one or two players who can fill those gaps.”
