Ahmedabad and Lucknow have been shortlisted as possible venues for the upcoming limited-overs series between India and the West Indies, scheduled from February 6 to 20.

India and West Indies were scheduled to play three ODIs and as many as T20Is from February 6 across six different venues, but it may not be possible due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

COVID-19 infections, fueled by the new Omicron variant, have continued to rise in India, with over 1-2 lakh new infections reported every day, forcing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to not only reduce the number of venues but also to decide to hold the ODIs and T20Is in just two different locations.

Earlier, Ahmedabad was scheduled to host the first ODI on February 6, Jaipur the second ODI on February 9, and the final ODI was to be held in Kolkata on February 12, while the T20Is was supposed to be held in Cuttack, Visakhapatnam, and Thiruvananthapuram on February 15, 18, and 20 respectively.

But now, Lucknow has been shortlisted to stage the ODI series, while Ahmedabad will host the T20I series between Team India and the West Indies next month.

However, it is being said that all the white-ball games will be played in Ahmedabad if the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh (UP) throw a challenge to maintaining the bio-secure bubble due to COVID.
