‘Players & staff are DONE with them!’ - Kevin Pietersen calls for abolishing bio-bubbles

Pietersen called for end of bio-bubbles which are affecting the cricketers monthly.

The ongoing Ashes 2021-22 has one of the most strict bio-bubble protocols | GettyFormer England captain Kevin Pietersen has called for the abolishment of strict bio-bubbles for players and said that the setup which is meant to protect from the COVID-19 virus is ruining the best job in the world.

Pietersen’s suggestion is a drastic one compared to the balanced approach of workload management advocated by the likes of India Test captain Virat Kohli and former head coach Ravi Shastri who have also warned that bubble fatigue among players will hurt the game.

“Strict bio-bubbles for players & coaching staff needs to be abolished for good ASAP! They’re ruining what’s meant to be the best job in the world now. Players & staff are DONE with them!,” Pietersen tweeted.

The bio-bubble life was stricter when cricket resumed after the initial break during the COVID-19 outbreak in January 2020. The recent bio-bubble has varied from country to country and even from state to state in some regions.

Ashes 2021-22: England recall Stuart Broad for fourth Test; Australia make one forced change

Prior to the ongoing Ashes in Australia, there were reports that top English players could boycott the high-profile five-match series as they don’t want to be confined to their hotel rooms for close to four months due to strict quarantine rules Down Under.

However, the world is currently battling the more infectious strain of COVID-19, the Omicron virus, which has made things trickier for the cricket boards around the world.

They have to keep players safe without confining them to bio-bubbles with strict protocols. They also have to abide by the various state and central government protocols which are different in every country.
