Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer heaped rich praise on England’s Test skipper Joe Root, saying that the right-hander is single-handedly carrying the team's batting on his shoulders.

Joe Root has looked a class apart in 2021. It’ll be fair to say that the right-hander has single-handedly carried England’s batting line-up in Tests this year.

Even though England is not having the greatest of time in Ashes 2021-22, skipper Root is continuing his red-hot form and making sure that his team fights till the very end.

The right-hander scored 89 runs in the second innings of the Gabba Test, which Australia won by 9 wickets and then smashed yet another half-century in the ongoing second Test of Ashes 2021-22 in Adelaide.

After England lost both the openers early in Adelaide, Root once again bailed his team out of the trouble and along with Dawid Malan, who scored 80, stitched 138 runs partnership.

Joe Root scored 62 runs in England's first innings of the ongoing pink-ball Test against Australia and in the process also went past 1,600 Test runs in 2021.

Taking to his official Twitter account, Wasim Jaffer lauded Joe Root, saying that the England Test skipper is a joy to watch as he looks easy on the eyes but scores tough runs.

The Ranji Trophy legend hailed Root as one of the best players of spin and rated him higher than Virat Kohli, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson.

"Joe Root is such a joy to watch. Looks easy on the eyes but scores some tough runs. One of the the best players of spin, and currently the best among usual suspects in Kohli, Smith and Williamson. What a year he's having, single-handedly carrying the English batting," Wasim Jaffer Tweeted.

If Joe Root scores 183 runs in the three innings that remain potentially, he will surpass Mohammad Yousuf’s tally of 1788 runs to become the batter to register the most number of runs in longest format of the game in a single calendar year.
