Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Sunday (July 25) announced the revised schedule for the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan. Initially, the West Indies and Pakistan were to clash in five T20Is but the COVID-19 complications forced the CWI to reduce the series to a 4-match one.

A COVID-19 positive case in the West Indies’ non-playing staff two days ago forced the CWI and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to reschedule the dates of the Pakistan tour.

The originally planned five-match T20I series was to begin on July 27 but the CWI will not be able to host the series at that time due to a recent positive COVID-19 case that had already disrupted the recent ODI series against Australia and they decided to drop a T20I from the home series against Pakistan.

The decision was taken after both CWI and PCB agreed to play a revised four-match T20I series, starting on Wednesday (July 28) followed by a two-match Test series as part of the 2021-23 World Test Championship. The schedule for the Test series is unchanged.

CWI President Ricky Skerritt stated: “Together with the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board), CWI have examined various scenarios, and we jointly agreed that the best solution in the present circumstances is to cancel the first T20I and play a four-match T20I series starting on Wednesday and keep the rest of the tour schedule unchanged.”

He added, “Both teams are in the final stages of preparing for the ICC T20 World Cup, so we anticipate an exciting and entertaining series of games.”

Here’s the revised schedule:

July 28: 1st T20, Kensington Oval, Barbados
July 31: 2nd T20, National Stadium, Guyana
August 1: 3rd T20, National Stadium, Guyana
August 3: 4th T20, National Stadium, Guyana

August 12-16: 1st Test, Sabina Park, Jamaica
August 20-24: 2nd Test, Sabina Park, Jamaica
