ENG v PAK 2021: Eoin Morgan returns as captain as England named 16-member squad for T20I series

Morgan-led team was forced to isolate due to COVID cases in the England camp ahead of Pakistan ODIs.

Eoin Morgan | GettyEngland and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Wednesday (July 14) announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming home T20I series against Pakistan.

Eoin Morgan has been named the captain of the side as he completed the quarantine following COVID-19 scare in the English camp.

Ahead of the ODI series against Pakistan, Morgan-led England team was forced to isolate due to three players and four staff testing positive for COVID-19.

“Morgan is one of nine players who have been included in the squad after completing the required period of self-isolation following the Royal London Series against Sri Lanka. All of the 16-player squad and support staff have returned negative Covid-19 tests to clear them for the series,” ECB said in a statement.

“Paul Collingwood will oversee the team as head coach with Chris Silverwood to take a break,” it added.

For their stellar performances in England's 3-0 ODI series win over Pakistan, Saqib Mahmood and Lewis Gregory have been picked in the T20I squad.

Mahmood, who earned the Player-of-the-Series award, took nine wickets at an average of 13.66 in three ODIs against Pakistan.

On the other hand, Gregory claimed four wickets in the series and played valuable knocks of 40 and 77 in the second and third ODI, respectively.

The three-match T20I series is due to begin on Friday (July 16) at Trent Bridge.
