Rashid Khan opts playing in PSL over T20 Blast stint with Sussex

Premier Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan reveals that he has chosen to play in the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) instead of his county stint with Sussex. 

PSL 2021 recently got the green signal to complete the remaining matches. The tournament will resume from 9th June and will culminate on 24th June in Abu Dhabi. 

Ace Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan recently rejoined his franchise Lahore Qalandars for the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021. The leg-spinner played only 2 matches before the tournament was postponed with immediate effect after six players along with one official were tested positive for the COVID-19. 

After the completion of PSL, Rashid Khan was all set to join Sussex for the T20 Blast in the United Kingdom.

Talking to Cricket Pakistan, premier Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan while appreciating Sussex for their help and understanding revealed that he has put his T20 Blast contract with Sussex on hold to participate in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

"Unfortunately, I only played two games in PSL 6 and had to go away for national duty. Now I had the option to stay back in England and here I must appreciate Sussex for their help and understanding as I had to decide between missing five games with the county or playing a whole tournament like PSL which seemed like a better option, especially as the fans wanted me to play in the PSL," Rashid Khan told cricket Pakistan. 

Khan said that playing in PSL will help Afghanistan players improve their cricket. He added that Afghan youngsters playing in other leagues around the world have a great chance to prove their talent and skill in top-level cricket. 

“All the players who have come from Afghanistan and are playing the PSL, this is a great opportunity for them to come and play alongside top players and to improve their own cricket.

"For all those Afghan youngsters who have not got an opportunity to play in other leagues, this is a great chance to prove that they have the skills and talent to play in top-level cricket," he said. 

Rashid Khan further said that playing cricket between Afghanistan and Pakistan will increase love and relayed between players. 

"Playing cricket between two countries will increase the love and respect between players of both sides; Sports is all about bringing unity between countries," he concluded. 

Rashid Khan will be seen in action when Lahore Qalandars will take on Islamabad United in the 15th match of the tournament.
