Veteran Indian off-spinner R Ashwin, who shined for India with his all-around performance in the second Test match between India and England, said that if he gets the opportunity to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup, he will give it his best shot.

Since the emergence of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal in the limited-overs, R Ashwin has been mainly seen as a Test specialist. Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin played his last T20I game in 2017 against West Indies.

Playing in IPL the talismanic off-spinner has scalped 138 wickets from 154 matches at an average of 26.81 and is currently an essential part of the Delhi Capitals.

Even though R Ashwin has done well in the Indian premier league the selectors have not shown any interest to bring Ashwin back in the limited-overs format.

While reflecting on playing in T20 World Cup, which is set to take place in India later this year, R Ashwin said that he is focusing on the present while being realistic about representing India in limited-overs cricket.

"For me, it's very realistic not a dream (to play in T20 World Cup). The space I am in right now, I'm enjoying whatever I'm doing on a day-to-day basis. It's been more about the process, it's more about what how, and when rather than this that and there. That's something which can make you chase and make you desperate,” R Ashwin said.

Ashwin further said that whatever opportunity he got in IPL, he has put earnest attempt and contributed in whatever way he could.

"There are a lot of cricketers who have done very well for India in different formats. I've been out of the (T20) team for the last 3 years but every time I have got an opportunity in the IPL I have put a very earnest attempt and contributed in whatever way I can,” he said.

R Ashwin further said that if he gets an opportunity he will give his best shot.

"If the team deems it fit and obviously I will think I'm good enough. If I get my opportunity I will give it my best shot," he concluded.
