Australia clinched a thrilling win in the decider of the three-match ODI series against England on 16 September, Wednesday. Glenn Maxwell and wicket-keeper Alex Carey scored centuries while forging a stunning comeback after they were found reeling at 73/5 and took Australia to a three-wicket victory.

Maxwell also scored 77 in the first game and Australia won that match too. The all-rounder will be elated with his return to form just before the IPL 2020.

He gave credit for his success to the Australian skipper Aaron Finch, who had a chat with him during the lockdown in Melbourne and cleared what was expected out of him as a batsman.

Maxwell told India Today, "Every time you get a chance to play in this Australian team you take whatever role you're given. The really good thing is, even in the lockdown period, I was training with Finchy and we were able to talk about my role and certain things."

"It wore me down and I forgot who I was": Glenn Maxwell on mental health struggles

"I just had so much clarity on what he expected of me in that role and I think that gave me really good clarity out there. Just knowing I had the backing of him is awesome. He's been great for this group over here, he's kept us all together, all 21 of us in the hub here. Whether it be in the field or with his batters he's been outstanding," he added.

Maxwell was also very happy with the way Australia played against the ODI World Cup winners champions England defeated them on their home soil.

"To take them down on home soil when they have been playing pretty consistent cricket over here and for us to start our summer off after a long time in lockdown with a series win against them was pretty incredible for this group," the 31-year-old said.
