Sri Lankan players to resume training via residential camp in Colombo 

A 13-member initial squad has been picked to restart training after COVID-19 hiatus.

Strict health guidelines will be followed during the camp | AFPSri Lanka's men's team will resume training after a lengthy hiatus via a residential camp in Colombo, starting June 1st under the guidelines issued by the country's government amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 

A selected squad of 13 members, mostly featuring bowlers across formats, will have their training at the Colombo Cricket Club ground and stay at a hotel for the entirety of the camp.

Beginning with in-house fitness training at the hotel on its opening day, the camp will move to ground training from 2nd of June. A four-member coaching unit will be there overseeing the preparation for cricket's return in the near future. 

"The 12-day ‘Residential Training Camp’ was implemented, taking into consideration the health regulations imposed by the Government, which specifies cricket as a ‘High Risk’ sport and needs residential training," reads a media release by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). 

"SLC has taken all required measures in consultation with the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Health to ensure the safety of every individual involved in this exercise, and has formulated a set of procedures to adhere, during the camp period and before."

In accordance with the camp, some of the rules that will be followed are:-

All vehicles involved in the program will be disinfected before commencing the ‘Residential Camp’ and also during the camp period.

Whilst health officials already visited the hotel and the practice venue, and provided health guidelines to the staff members of the respective venues to follow, during the camp period.

Members taking part in the camp, will not be allowed to leave the hotel premises or the practice venue to attend personal matters during the training period.
