Pakistan cricket legend Zaheer Abbas has on Thursday (April 9) reacted to Shoaib Akhtar’s latest proposal, saying he doesn't see an India-Pakistan bilateral series taking place anytime soon.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been trying hard over the years to resume cricketing rivalries between the two arch-rivals, but the BCCI has constantly denied the approach, due to the political tension between the two neighbors.

Amid the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic across the world, Akhtar proposed a 3-match ODI series between India and Pakistan for raising funds for COVID-19 relief for both countries and Abbas said “it is very difficult” and may not happen in the near future.

Abbas told Press Trust of India on Thursday, “I think it is very difficult. We have been trying for long but I don't see it happening in the near future.”

Meanwhile, the ongoing outbreak has brought all sporting events to halt and Abbas believes that the games can resume only when normalcy returns post the Coronavirus crisis – which has claimed over 82000 lives and infected around 15 lakh peoples globally so far.

Both India and Pakistan are also struggling to get out of this crisis caused by the deadly COVID-19 virus with both countries have recorded over 5000 cases so far.

He signed off by saying, “It depends on how the situation unfolds. At some point of time, sporting activities have to be resumed, but before that life should come back on track. If all the concerned authorities are satisfied, they can go ahead with the events, but nothing can be said as of now.”
