England opener Alex Hales will have to re-develop the foregone trust with his England teammates and the captain before he can be called up into the national team again.

Hales was selected for England's squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. However, he was dropped from the squad after consuming recreational drugs which are banned.

He served his three-month period away from the game and came back very well in the recently concluded Big Bash League 2019-20. England captain Eoin Morgan told BBC, “There was a breakdown in trust between Alex and the team.

Alex Hales must "rebuild trust" if he wants England comeback, says skipper Eoin Morgan

Hales had an excellent comeback as he finished with the second-most number of runs in the Big Bash League scoring 576 runs for the Sydney Thunder. He will now be joining the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League.

However, Morgan was straightforward in mentioning that the reason for dropping Hales was not the form and hence form only cannot lead him into the side again.

When he was deselected, it was never down to performance. He is one of the best players in the world. Moving forward, to regain that trust there needs to be a considerable amount of time,” Morgan added.

The 31-year-old will not only have to keep up with form but also convince his national teammates that he will not let the side down again in order to get back a spot at the international level.
