The ICC has rejected BCCI's plea to shift the date of its all-important board meeting scheduled for March 29 in Dubai. The request was made as the date clashes with the opening day of the 13th edition of the IPL this year.
Top board officials were due to attend the ICC meeting where many significant issues concerning world cricket are set to be discussed. This may force the new regime, led by president Sourav Ganguly, to consider postponing the start of the IPL 2020, which as Ganguly himself informally announced is due to kickstart on March 29.
"The BCCI had written to the ICC to request for a date change, but that wasn't possible," a source close to the matter told TOI. "The dates for these meetings (there is a series of ICC meetings in Dubai from March 27-29) were communicated to all the member countries in August last year."
"All the travel/accommodation/meeting space is booked for all the meeting participants accordingly."
The proposal to mandate four-day Test cricket from next FTP cycle 2023-31 is one of the hot topics up for further discussions during the ICC board meeting.
"The dates for all the ICC meetings are fixed well in advance," the source added, raising question marks on BCCI's planning. "Even the dates for the next annual conference of the ICC, scheduled to be held in Cape Town on July 17 & 18 this year, were finalized last August itself."
