BAN v ZIM 2020: Soumya Sarkar to miss initial phase of Zimbabwe series to tie the knot

Bangladesh all-rounder Soumya Sarkar has taken a break from the national duty for the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Minhajul Abedin confirmed on Thursday (February 13).

The Tigers will be without the service of their star cricketer in the one-off Test and opening One Day International match of the three-match series against Zimbabwe at home.

The speculations about Soumya’s marriage was surfacing since he shared a picture of himself with his bride on Instagram on Thursday, but there was no official confirmation about the same until the BCB chief selector revealed that the star cricketer is taking a break to get married.

However, neither Soumya and family nor Abedin revealed the details about the marriage or dates but it was confirmed that the 26-year-old has opted out of the initial phases of the Zimbabwe series to get married.

Abedin told Cricbuzz on Thursday, “Soumya will get married so we won't get him during the lone Test against Zimbabwe and opening ODI of the three-match series.”

He also revealed that Al Amin Hossain is also likely to miss the one-off Test against Zimbabwe due to back pain, “He is probably unavailable against Zimbabwe in the Test series due to his back pain.”

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is expected to reach Bangladesh on February 15 to play a two-day practice match against BCB XI on February 18-19 before involving in the one-off Test match against the Tigers in Dhaka starting February 22.

The two teams will them shift focus toward the white-ball game, traveling to Sylhet for a three-match ODI series on March 1, 3 and 6 followed by two T20Is on March 9 and 11 in Dhaka.
