"Fantastic feeling" - Sandeep Lamichhane on bagging career-best 6/16 as Nepal routs USA

Lamichhane helped Nepal dominate USA to end the tri-nation series on a happy note.

Sandeep Lamichhane | GettyTeenage leg-spin sensation Sandeep Lamichhane bagged astonishing figures of 6/16 - his career's best in 50-over version - as Nepal bundled out USA for just 35, the joint-lowest ever in ODIs, to reign supreme by eight wickets in the final game of the tri-nation series, also featuring Oman, part of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2.

While Oman finished the eight-day-long tournament with a clean slate, winning all four of its games, Nepal ensured it overcame defeats to its Asian counterparts by exposing USA's spin-handling deficiencies well, winning both of its matches against the americans, sending them back without a victory and with a lot to worry approaching the best part of next two years in trying to qualify for the next World Cup in India.

"It's a fantastic feeling to be on that list [of best figures in ODI cricket]," ESPNcricinfo quoted Lamichhane as saying as Nepal wrapped up the proceedings in less than two hours on Wednesday (February 12).

"But if you talk about 6 for 16, it's for the team and the team is important for us. Two wins out of four [matches], still 32 games to go [in the World Cup League 2] and beating the top team in the league so far, I think it's a positive sign for us."

Lamichhane's new-ball act was outstanding, even if aided self-admittedly by his experience of bowling in the powerplay for various franchises in the  T20 leagues around the world.

"I've been bowling for the last two years with the new ball," he said. "So I've got that experience how to give that rip with the new ball."

"It's all about the backing you get from the captain as well and the kind of response he is giving to my bowling as well. So the belief and trust from the captain, that was the thing that helped me to perform like that today."
