Chetan Chauhan says "Playing in Pakistan unsafe"; against resumption of India-Pakistan bilateral ties

India and Pakistan have not had bilateral cricketing relations since 2013.

India and Pakistan have only played each other in ICC and ACC events | GettyIndia and Pakistan share a heated rivalry in cricket given the political and historical relations between the two countries. If Pakistan has a better record against India in international cricket; India can boast that they have never lost to their rivals in any World Cup match, ODI or T20I.

However, both the countries have not faced each other one on one since 2013 and have only battled it out in the ICC and ACC events like the Champions Trophy, the World Cup, the T20 World Cup and the Asia Cup.

Recently, Yuvraj Singh and Shahid Afridi called for the resumption of bilateral ties between the two countries given the immense potential for electrifying cricket and the financial aspect of the two Asian giants clashing against one another.

However, former India opener Chetan Chauhan, who has played many series against Pakistan in the 70s and 80s, is against the resumption of bilateral matches. He mentioned that despite Sri Lanka and Bangladesh playing in the neighboring country, the state is still not safe for India to travel there.

Chetan Chauhan, former India opener"Right now, bilateral series between India and Pakistan should not take place as relations between both countries is not nice. Playing in Pakistan is not safe. Terrorists are not concerned with cricket. As long as terrorists are there in Pakistan, cricket cannot be played between India and Pakistan," Chauhan said.

Chauhan also gave a piece of advice to the Indian team management after the recent ODI series debacle. "I wanted Rahane to be in the ODI setup when Dhawan and Rohit got injured, someone who could have given stability to the side should have been brought into the side,” he said.

"Bumrah is looking a little tired. I expect the side to give a good performance in the Test series against New Zealand. Experienced campaigners like Rahane will be back in the Test setup, but Rohit and Dhawan will be missed," he added.
