Virat Kohli urges fans to vote for Sachin Tendulkar in Laureus Sporting Moment Award 2000-2020

Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli has urged people to vote for Sachin Tendulkar after the legendary cricketer was shortlisted for the greatest Laureus Sporting Moment 2000-2020 Award.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday (February 9), Kohli has described Tendulkar as a "friend, teammate, mentor, and icon" and urged everyone to vote for his idol in the Laureus Sporting Moment, as the ‘God of Cricket’ was shortlisted as one among five contenders for the prestigious award.

The moment titled “Carried On the Shoulders Of A Nation” – a reference to India’s 2011 World Cup triumph that came under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. It was the Indian Cricket Team’s first World Cup victory after 28 years and Tendulkar’s only World Cup triumph in his illustrious career.

Back then, after India beat Sri Lanka in the final of the mega event at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Kohli, who was among those who carried Tendulkar, had famously said: Tendulkar has carried the burden of the nation for 21 years; It was time we carried him.”

Well, the moment has been selected for the greatest Laureus Sporting Moment 2000-2020 Award and Kohli urged people in a tweet: “A friend, teammate, mentor, and icon. Let's all come together and vote for Sachin paaji for the Laureus Sporting Moment 2000-2020.”

Noteworthy, the foundation has given the opportunity to the fans to choose the winner for the Laureus Sporting Moment 2000-2020 via public voting this time with the winner will be announced during the Laureus World Sports Awards Show in Berlin on February 17.
