Sir Alastair Cook appointed to MCC World Cricket Committee

Sir Alastair Cook appointed to MCC World Cricket Committee

The committee meets twice a year to discuss issues related to the world of cricket.

Cook and Skerritt both accepted the invitation to join the panel that meets twice a year to discuss the most important issues concerning the game and acts as an independent voice in world cricket.

"I am thrilled that Sir Alastair and Ricky have both accepted our invitation to join the MCC World Cricket committee," chairman of the committee, Mike Gatting said in a media release.

"Alastair has enjoyed a wonderful career with England over a number of years and with him still playing domestically, he can give insight from a current players’ perspective, as well using his undisputable international experience."

"We have been keen for some time to appoint a new representative from the West Indies and I am delighted that Ricky will be joining us," Gatting added. "His knowledge of the game from a West Indian perspective will be invaluable, and his work outside of the sport will also be advantageous to the committee."

Cook retired from the game in 2018 after becoming England's highest-ever Test run-scorer with 12,472 runs in 161 matches. He remains active, though, playing for Essex in the county championship.

Skerritt, a former Minister of Tourism, International Transport, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Sport in his native Saint Kitts and Nevis, became president of Cricket West Indies in March 2019 and has since done a wonderful job in bringing the best of Caribbean players back to the international fold.

These appointments follow the departure of West Indies bowler and current broadcaster Ian Bishop and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who stood down from the committee.

The MCC World Cricket Committee's next meet will take place in Sri Lanka and will coincide with England's two-match Test tour to the island nation as well as the MCC County Championship Match at Galle.
