MS Dhoni has not played for India or even for his domestic side after India’s World Cup exit from the World Cup 2019 in the semi-final against New Zealand. Thus, due to this reason, he was not included in the BCCI’s central contract list.

Since there has been no concrete update on MS Dhoni’s future apart from head coach Ravi Shastri hinting that MS Dhoni is likely to retire from ODIs soon but could be in contention to play the T20 World Cup if he does well in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

While talking to Cricbuzz about no MS Dhoni in the central contract list, Virender Sehwag said, “Selectors have probably made up their mind that they will not select MS Dhoni. So BCCI also made its mind.

“The grades are created by selectors and they might have thought that since they will not pick Dhoni, it will be ideal to include him. It’s correct. It’s a clear message for MS that you can call it quits whenever you feel like,” he added.

When asked if he was shocked with this decision, the right-hander said, “No. Not at all he hasn’t played any form of cricket since World Cup 2019 so no surprises here. He has retired from Tests, they don’t play him in one-days and there’s only one format left. It isn’t also confirmed whether they would play him again.

Thus, it will be interesting to see how the Ranchi-lad goes about with his plans.
