Former England captain and cricket pundit Michael Vaughan believes Indian Cricket Team has lacked a lot of power in the “engine room” and also “the middle order” and that's the reason why they have underachieved in the last two 50-over World Cups.

While saying the people are well aware of India’s middle-order weakness and lack power in their engine room in the one-day Cricket, Vaughan feels it’s now Virat Kohli and his boys to accept that and they have underachieved in the last two mega 50-over ICC events.

He further went on to point out how the Men in Blue have not been able to cross the semi-final barrier in the both 2015 and 2019 editions of the World Cup.

India’s crushing 10-wicket defeat at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai at the hands of Australia in the first ODI has once again exposed their middle-order weakness and Vaughan is eagerly waiting to see how the hosts respond in the second ODI starting Friday (January 17) in Saurashtra.

The Englishman further warned India that they have three years to work on those areas to be able to keep up the tradition of the hosts winning when they host the next edition of the World Cup in 2023.

Taking to Twitter, Vaughan wrote: “Interested to see how #India responds in the 2nd ODI. If they are honest they will accept the last 2 World Cups they have underachieved !! They lack power for me in the engine room, the middle order, they have 3 yrs to make sure they can keep up the tradition of the hosts winning.”

The three-match series-opening ODI, India experimented with their batting order by demoting skipper Kohli at No. 4 to accommodate in-form KL Rahul in the playing XI, but that didn’t work, as the suffered massive defeat against Australia in Mumbai on Tuesday.
