As the decade draws to a close, Cricket Australia (CA) on Monday (December 23) released its ODI XI of the last 10 years and named the legendary MS Dhoni as the captain of the side.

"The input of MS Dhoni with the bat did tail off during the latter part of the decade, but he was a dominant force in a golden period for India's ODI side. Having assured his greatness by guiding his nation to World Cup glory on home soil in 2011, the right-hander became India's ultimate finisher with the bat," CA said while lauding Dhoni.

"Dhoni's average of more than 50 is undoubtedly boosted by the fact 49 of his innings were unbeaten. But on the 28 occasions, he has been not out in a run chase this decade, India have lost only three times. And his work behind the stumps has rarely let him or his bowlers down," it added.

From 2010-19, Dhoni led India to 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy triumphs. As a batsman, he made 5640 runs at 50.35 in 196 ODIs during this time period.

Cricket Australia’s team of the decade is full of match winners. Opening the batting are India’s Rohit Sharma and South Africa’s Hashim Amla. They will then be followed by Indian captain Virat Kohli, who has been the batsman of the decade in the 50-over format.

At No. 4 is South Africa’s AB de Villiers, who has the capability to change the course of the match in a matter of overs. And then, he will be followed by Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan and England’s Jos Buttler.

The fast bowling attack includes Mitchell Starc, Trent Boult and Lasith Malinga while Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan has been named the premier spinner in the team.
