BPL 2019-20: Challengers defeat Thunder to kickstart BPL season

Chattogram Challengers chased down the target of 163 with an over to spare.

Imrul Kayes played a fantastic knock in the run-chase | GettySylhet Thunders took on Chattogram Challengers to kickstart the Bangladesh Premier League 2019-20 this Wednesday (December 11).

Batting first, the Thunder posted a fighting total of 162/4 in 20 overs, with Mohammad Mithun playing a magnificent innings of 84* runs in just 48 balls, and Johnson Charles (35) as well as captain Mosaddek Hossain (29*) providing him able support.

For the challengers, pacer Rubel Hossain (2/27) picked up a couple of breakthroughs in his economical spell while the rest of the bowling unit toiled hard.

In the run-chase, Challengers lost a flurry of wickets before Avishka Fernando and Imrul Kayes ensured their team stays afloat. Avishka later got out on 33 but Kayes continued the good work, and upon finding another able partner in Chadwick Walton, got his team in control of the asking rate as well.

Kayes soon brought up his half-century (61) and via an 86 run-stand, he and Walton (49*) paved way for their team's five-wicket win.

Nazmul Islam (2/23) provided the Thunder early breakthroughs but the rest just failed to capitalise on the good work he did.

Brief Scores:

Sylhet Thunder 162/2 in 20 overs (Mohammad Mithun 84; Rubel Hossain 2/27) lost to Chattogram Challengers 163/5 in 19 overs (Imrul Kayes 61; Nazmul Islam 2/23) by five wickets
