BCB wants to make BPL a corruption-free tournament | BCB

Taking a step towards delivering the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2019-20 a corruption-free tournament, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to assign a dedicated anti-corruption officer to each franchise in the upcoming tournament.

On Friday, December 6, the BCB President Nazmul Hasan has revealed that every participating franchise will have an agent from the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) during the upcoming BPL 2019-20, which is scheduled to get underway from December 11, in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The BCB would be bearing the extra expenses to attach anti-corruption officials with each team to make sure the tournament is secure from the corrupt activities after the BPL had earlier been hit by match-fixing issues, which saw Mohammad Ashraful and Chittagong Vikings Manager Shakeel Abedin receiving a ban.

The BCB chief Nazmul told reporters, “There will be an anti-corruption agent with each of the teams in this BPL. It was always there but now that is more intensified [after the Shakib incident] and it is getting bigger with each passing day.”

He continued, “All we have to do is bear the extra expenses because if you assign a person for each and every team, he should be given salary and also you have to provide him the food and accommodation. But we instantly agreed with this. We just want to keep everything secure. Whatever the ACU members are advising, we are doing that.”

Nazmul signed off by saying, “Usually we don't recruit them, rather we appoint them. The member of the ACU generally comes from the Army. Every team will be given training on corruption issues. Those who are the sponsors of the team will do the things accordingly. We will not interfere in it. We, in fact, don't want to know what ACU is doing. I think they should be given the freedom to work independently.”
