Australian Test captain Tim Paine, on Monday, December 2, urged the Pink-ball critics to stop comparing the cherry ball to its traditional red counterpart in Test cricket.

He further added that the ball used in the day-night Test matches will have its own characteristics, so accept the change, and embrace the Pink-ball for the growth of the five-day format.

In the newest format of the Test cricket, Australia maintained their unbeaten record with their innings-and-48-run thumping of Pakistan in Adelaide under the lights, and they will have another Day-Night affair next week against New Zealand in Perth.

Paine told reporters in Adelaide, “What we want is people watching Test match cricket and I think the pink ball day-night Test certainly makes that happen. It’s bringing new people to the game. I think what we need to stop doing is trying to compare the pink ball to the red ball.”

He signed off by saying, “It’s not going to behave the same, it isn’t the same ball. It’s going to behave like a pink ball. And at the moment it’s relatively new and we’re getting used to it. It’s just something players will adapt to and get better at but in terms of the product I think it’s good to watch.”

Noteworthy, Australia will have an extra edge over the Black Caps (2 matches) in the upcoming pink-ball Test having had more experience of Day-Night Test cricket (6 matches) when they will meet in the first Test of the three-match Test series on December 12th at Perth.
